Season 8 of Mom was officially confirmed on February 5, 2019 via the show's Twitter account. Production began on September 14, 2020. The season premiered on November 5, 2020 and concluded on May 13, 2021, previously scheduled for May 6, 2021.[1]

  • This season was confirmed on February 5, 2019, along with Season 7.
  • This season was expected to premiere in September 2020, but production was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, the season premiered on November 5.[3]
  • On September 4, 2020, it was announced that Anna Faris would not be returning to the role of Christy Plunkett for an eighth consecutive season.[4] It was initially unexplained how her absence would be addressed in the series or if she would return as a guest in the future, but Kristen Johnston revealed shortly after that the character was "moving on to an awesome (sober) life".[5] Christy's absence was addressed in the cold open of the season premiere, which featured Bonnie and Adam on the way home from dropping Christy off at the airport after she had gotten a full scholarship to Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C.
  • Production of this season began on September 14, 2020.
  • On December 31, 2020, it was announced that production of the eighth season of Mom had been delayed due to a surge in COVID-19 cases and the show would be going on an extended hiatus, returning January 21 instead of January 7 (with production resuming January 11 as opposed to January 4).[6]
  • On February 17, 2021, it was announced that the eighth season of Mom would be the series' last, with the finale to air on May 6, 2021.[7]
  • On March 22, 2021, the series finale date was rescheduled for May 13, 2021.
