Ray Stabler is the only son of Shirley Stabler, the younger maternal half-brother of Bonnie Plunkett, the Half-Uncle of Christy Plunkett and a minor character in Mom. He is portrayed by Leonard Roberts.
Biography[]
Early life[]
He was born to Shirley Stabler and her second husband. He initially seemed to have had a good childhood, as he played baseball as a child and had a framed portrait of winning a game. This lasted until his father walked out on the family, leaving Ray to solely be raised by his mother. As mentioned by himself, Shirley resented him for being a living reminder of her failed marriage and treated him coldly, not bothering to help him with certain matters. Upon reaching adulthood and getting accepted into law school, Ray later reflected that he couldn't wait to get away from her.
He went onto become a successful lawyer and marry another man named David who worked as a model.
Relationships[]
Bonnie[]
Ray is Bonnie's maternal half-brother on their mom's side. He didn't know Bonnie was his sister until Tush Push and Some Radishes, where the two meet after their mother's death. Their first meeting was rocky, as Bonnie projected her resentment at Ray being kept while she was tossed aside but Ray gave her a brutal reality check by stating their mother was a terrible parent who he couldn't wait to be free and projecting the sentiment on Bonnie for her unfair treatment.
Their next meeting in “Lockjaw and a Liquid Diet“, goes better and Bonnie reluctantly put aside her resentment to ask him for legal advice. Ray agreed to help and he succeeds in getting Bonnie off the hook. Much later, she invites him to dinner with her friends and she voices her gratitude at him, finally seeing him as her family. Ray was accepting and took the time to voice how he suffers from drug/substance abuse but this only solidifies Bonnie's view of being her brother.
Shirley[]
Shirley is Ray's mother. It seems things went well until her husband walked out on the family, leaving Shirley to be a single mother. As mentioned by Ray, Shirley resented him for being a living reminder of her failed marriage and treated him coldly, not bothering to help him much as a child. Ray later reflected and voiced resentment at her treatment of him and withholding the fact that she had a daughter before telling her that while she was abandoned and wished she had her that he couldn't wait to get away from her.
It seems Shirley regretted this in her later life, as she left Ray money upon her death. Also, Ray seemed sad by her death, suggesting lingering fondness.
Christy[]
Ray is Christy's uncle. When they first met, she was surprised meet him and told him of their relation. Unlike her mother, she readily accepted him as family by calling him uncle and he gave her his card.
Their next meeting took place in “Lockjaw and a Liquid Diet“, where Christy contacted him to ask him for legal advice. Ray agreed to help and was impressed with her argumentative skills, which he used to get her mother off the hook. Ray also told her his firm might hire her after she graduated from law school.
Much later, she invites him to dinner with her friends. Ray was accepting and took the time to voice how he suffers from drug/substance abuse but this admission only solidifies Christy's view of being her uncle.
Adam[]
Adam is Ray's brother-in-law and friend. They first met in “Lockjaw and a Liquid Diet“, but there was no direct interaction between them.
During “Fish Town and Too Many Thank You's”, the two interact when Ray visits Bonnie and Christy, with the two becoming good friends after bonding over sports and having a good talk. Their friendship left Bonnie jealous, as they had more common than she and Adam did.
